A little context.
I'm Ryah, a New Zealand-born explorer and storyteller who has walked an unconventional path.
In 2019 I worked at a start-up bank in Sydney. A life-changing trip to Africa, alongside discovering regenerative development, completely rewrote my sense of purpose. I left office life to study Regenerative Entrepreneurship in Costa Rica, later continuing to explore systems change and regenerative business through organisations including Regenesis Group and the Capital Institute.
At the same time, I was still figuring out what this new sense of purpose meant for my own life. I realised that if I was going to spend my twenties working it out, I wanted to get paid to see the world while I did it. Yachting has given me the freedom to do that while developing a wonderfully varied mix of practical, technical, creative and interpersonal skills. Importantly, it has kept me curious, adaptable and engaged with life.
I have now spent several years working on sailboats, crossing oceans and seeing the world from the water, deepening my connection to nature, the ocean and the people and cultures that make each place unique.
It’s been an inner journey too. I’ve had to learn through mistakes, personal struggles and the ongoing process of becoming more conscious about how I want to live.
Today, I'm still passionate about building economies that serve people and planet, and empowering a generation to imagine brighter futures.
I believe inspired storytelling makes that future feel real. The places we visit, people we meet and ideas we share shape what we believe is possible. We all have a part to play.
Ryah Roams is my expression of that potential: a collection of the people, places and projects reconnecting us with ourselves, each other and the world around us, and a reminder that the future isn't somewhere we're going. It's something we're creating, together.
